Join Peter Reiner and Suzan Gordon who are avid hikers and hike leaders of the Adirondack Mountain
Club North Jersey Ramapo Chapter. The presentation will
feature a lively discussion about how to get started in hiking as well as information about the trails in the lower Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey areas. The presentation will describe hiking trails in such parks as
Sterling Forest Park, Harriman Park, Bear Mountain
Park, Black Rock Forest, and Schunemunk area. They will display hiking equipment and discuss the ins and outs of back packs, hiking boots, hiking poles, maps and appropriate outdoor clothing.

The presentation will cover details about a typical hike, how hikes are rated in terms of length and difficulty, what to bring along and how to use New York-New Jersey Trail Conference hiking maps. The use of GPS devices to locate your position and how to relate these coordinates to the trail maps will also be covered.

A slide show will feature some of the beautiful mountain peaks in the area, the rivers and valleys, and views from all four seasons of hiking. Following the presentation, they will answer your questions and tell you how to get
started as a new hiker or someone with more experience. Overall, this will be a lively, interesting topic to get you thinking about summer hiking and enjoying the wonderful
forests and trails that surround our area. All ages are welcome to attend (children under eight should be accompanied by an adult).
