Vocal ensemble Piques Dames - concert of Russian Music

Fort Lee resident, soprano Olga Shyp, soprano Roza Tulyaganova, mezzo-soprano Yuki Otsuka and pianist Vica Schwartzman will present to the listeners their beloved program "Russian Medley".
Songs of Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and Glinka will be followed by folk songs and some popular 20th-century works. What makes the program more unique is that many of those songs were actually custom arranged by Piques Dames from the original scores. It was even compared to "a Fabergé egg, a rare jewel that kept unfolding more and more until it ended" (The Berkshire Review for the Arts, Carnegie Hall, October 2008) and praised for "the sensitivity and force" of the performance (Fort Lee Suburbanite, Carnegie Hall, October 2008.) Women, their love, emotions, doubts and other feelings are the centerpiece of the program.

Piques Dames is a group of passionate, classically trained musicians who share the excitement of heart-warming vocal music with their audiences. It is a winner of several chamber music competitions and has performed at such venues as Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, Trinity Church's "Concerts at One" Series and others.

They were invited to participate at the music festival and the 5th annual vocal ensemble competition in Fukushima, Japan on March 24-25, 2012 and a charity concert for evacuees with Osaka Symphony Orchestra on March 29. During the concert at the Fort Lee Public Library, they will ask the audience to write message cards of encouragement to Fukushima residents which they will hand-deliver to the Mayor of Fukushima City and/or the governor.
