Fire Destroys 90-Foot-Long Foam Dinosaur In Overpeck Park

A spark from a welder working nearby caused the fire, police said.

A fire destroyed a 90-foot-long foam dinosaur in Overpeck Park in Leonia Thursday afternoon, Leonia police said.

The Argentinosaurus was one of 34 in Field Station: Dinosaurs’ interactive exhibit.

Leonia Police Capt. Scott Tamagny said a welder was working nearby and a spark set the fire off.

No other dinosaurs were affected and no injuries were reported.

The exhibit is scheduled to open at the park Memorial Day weekend. It relocated there after being evicted from their longtime Secaucus home.
