Police will never call and solicit money from residents.

FORT LEE, N.J. — The police department is warning residents to be careful of callers claiming to be borough police officers and IRS employees.

The department will never call residents to solicit money, police warned.

If residents do receive a call from anyone claiming to be a borough police officer they should call the police at 201-592-3700.

Bergen County police departments have warned residents to constantly be wary of IRS call scammers. The callers con people, especially the elderly, to sending cash using prepaid debit cards.

IRS scams should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov.
