Local Veterinary Group to Offer Free Pet Nutrition Seminar
Fort Lee's own Oradell branch will be offering a free pet nutrition seminar on April 5th.
Fort Lee pet owners should be wagging their own tails for . The animal hospital will be offering a complimentary client seminar on pet nutrition on April 5 at 7 p.m. Dr. Laura Eirmann, the nutrition specialist at Oradell Animal Hospital of Paramus, will be speaking to pet owners about the importance of keeping your pet’s weight at a healthy range, the difference between holistic, natural, organic and the bevy of other pet food choices and the dangers of obesity.
Although pet owners are definitely more conscious about their pet’s everyday health today than in decades past – just ask someone who had a dog 25 years ago if they knew dogs could possibly be allergic to wheat and chicken - nutritional needs has remained a confusing area for pet owners. With so many choices in pet food, owners need help making the right decision.
“‘What should my pet eat?’ or ‘What food do you recommend for my pet?’ are some of the most frequently asked questions at our practice,” said Claudia Winsauer, clinic manager of Oradell Veterinary Group of Fort Lee.

Obesity is the number one health problem of pets in the U.S. Statistics say that almost 50 percent of pets suffer from being overweight, which, just like in humans, is considered a medical problem. There are a number of health concerns for overweight pets. As in people, obese pets are more subject to diabetes, osteoarthritis and a shortened life span. Dr. Eirmann makes the point that “how much is fed” is just as important as “what is fed.” Even if pets are put on high quality pet food, feeding them too much of it could severely affect their health.
“This seminar is designed to give pet owners the tools to make informed decisions so they can decide if these types of products are right for their pet,” Eirmann said.

Dr. Eirmann, a Cornell University graduate, has worked for Oradell Animal Hospital in Paramus since 1997. Six years ago she began advanced specialty training in veterinary nutrition and has earned a diploma from the American College of Veterinary Nutrition. Since then, pet nutrition has been her passion.
“I realize many pet owners may not be aware that there are veterinary specialists in nutritionist since there are not very many of us in the United States. In fact, there are only 2 veterinary nutritionists practicing in New Jersey: myself and Dr. Lisa Weeth at the Red Bank Veterinary Hospital,” Eirmann said.
The Nutrition Seminar at Oradell Veterinary Group of Fort Lee is free for clients.
“We strongly believe that it is both our responsibility and privilege to provide pet owners with information, especially as today’s veterinary medicine heavily focuses on early prevention,” said Winsauer.
RSVP’ing is encouraged, due to the amount of space available in the hospital’s conference room. As of this posting there are a few spaces left, so call 201-947-2442 for more information.
Oradell Veterinary Group of Fort Lee has done one other seminar previously on pet dental health, last fall. The seminar had a great response, and the hospital plans on offering more educational seminars in the future.
