Man With $49K In Car Charged With Money Laundering

The money was hidden in a secret compartment, authorities said.

FORT LEE, NJ — A New York man was charged with money laundering after police found nearly $50,000 in a secret compartment in his vehicle, authorities said.

Carlos Rodriguez-Hernandez, 50, of New York City, was arrested after members of the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office stopped the 2006 Honda Pilot he was driving in the area of Fort Lee, Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal announced Thursday.

Authorities stopped Rodriguez-Hernandez due to a narcotics investigation they were conducting; they found more than $49,700 in secret compartment in the Honda, Grewal said.

Rodriguez-Hernandez was charged with money laundering and released on his own recognizance pending a hearing in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court, Grewal said.
