Man In GWB Crash Charged With Driving While Intoxicated

Man was found with a 'white, powdery substance' inside his nostrils, police said.

FORT LEE, N.J. — A man was charged with driving while intoxicated after he sideswiped a truck heading east on the George Washington Bridge Wednesday morning, police said.

Port Authority police responded to the two-vehicle accident on the upper level approach to the bridge near Center Avenue in Fort Lee, said Joseph Pentangelo, Port Authority police spokesman.

Hector M. Gonzalez, 61, of Paterson, sideswiped a 2006 Ford Explorer while moving in traffic, Pentangelo said.

A Port Authority police officer noticed that Gonzalez's face was red and he was sweating profusely, authorities said.

Gonzalez failed a coordination test and was found to be under the influence of drugs, Pentangelo said.

Gonzalez was also charged with careless driving, authorities said.
