Police Rescue Man Who Fell From Cliff Above Palisades

The New York City man was trapped on a ledge 30 feet in the air, police said.

It could have been worse for Erick Sanes. A lot worse.

Police don't know how Sanes, of New York City, ended up injured and trapped on a ledge overlooking the Palisades Interstate Park. But the "how" did not matter. They needed to save him.

Police got a call at about 11:19 p.m. Thursday about a man who fell from a cliff and was trapped on a ledge, the Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Department, said in a news release.

The East Bergen Rappel Team, the Fort Lee Fire Department and ambulance corps, and Englewood Hospital EMS team responded to the scene.

The New Jersey section of the Palisades Interstate Park is 12 miles long and half a mile wide. It contains scenic overlooks, the Palisades Interstate Parkway, picnic areas, a nature sanctuary, and stunning views of the Hudson River and Manhattan.
