WATCH: Truck Driver Uses Fishing Line To Beat GWB Toll

License plate was hinged and on a string, which the driver used to pull it up and let it down after going through the toll, police said.

FORT LEE, NJ - A New York mas was arrested after police allegedly caught him using a fishing line to conceal his license plate as he passed through tolls on the George Washington Bridge, Port Authority Police said.

Officer George Kwiecinski saw a 2006 Freightliner tractor-trailer with no front license plate pass through the bridge's Fort Lee toll at about 7:15 p.m., said police spokesman Joe Pentangelo.

The E-ZPass sign alerted that the suspect did not pay the toll, Pentangelo said in a statement.

The license plate was rigged with a hinge and fishing line that went into the cab, Pentangelo said. The driver, Javier Marte, used the line to pull the plate up and out of view and then bring it back down after exiting the toll, Pentangelo said.

Marte, 41, of Yonkers, was charged with tampering with public records and theft of services.

The fare for the tractor-trailer would have been $126 at that hour without an E-ZPass.
