Woman Commits Suicide From GWB Sunday: Police

It is the seventh suicide from the bridge this year, authorities said.

FORT LEE, N.J. — A woman committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

At about 4:15 p.m. Sunday, a motorist reported seeing a woman jump from the bridge near the New York tower, said Joe Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The man exited his car and saw the woman's body in the water, Pentangelo said.

The Port Authority's Harbor Unit retrieved the woman's body and transported her to its New York boat basin.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 30s, was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital, Pentangelo said. She was pronounced dead at St. Luke's Hospital in New York City, authorities said.

This is the seventh suicide from the bridge this year, Pentangelo said.
