FREEHOLD, NJ — Authorities are investigating after a man was shot on East Main Street on Thursday.
At 5:11 p.m. on Thursday, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said that members of their Major Crimes Bureau and the Freehold Borough Police Department are actively investigating the incident.
According to authorities, the shooting took place on East Main Street between South and Center Streets on Thursday afternoon, near the Freehold Public Library.
In an online post, the library said its staff is safe, though the library will be closed through Monday.
"The library will be closed through Monday, May 4, following an incident today," the library said. "Library staff are safe, scene is secure, investigation underway."
The Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office said the shooting is "believed to have been an isolated incident."
"This is believed to have been an isolated incident, with no known further danger to the community," prosecutors said. "We are asking the public to please avoid the immediate area while the investigation continues."
