FREEHOLD, NJ — Atlantic Health has announced new medical center leadership changes, including the appointment of an interim president and CEO at CentraState Medical Center.
Maureen Schneider, the Senior Vice President at Atlantic Health, will transition from her role as President of Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center to serve as Interim President & CEO at Atlantic Health CentraState Medical Center.
In Schneider's place, Stephanie Schwartz, the Senior Vice President and President of Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center, will assume additional responsibility as the Interim President of Chilton Medical Center, where she previously served in the role.
These appointments follow the resignation of Tom Scott, who successfully led CentraState Healthcare System for over a decade.
Following a strategic co-membership agreement that became effective on January 1, 2022, CentraState Healthcare System became part of Atlantic Health.
Schneider, who has served as a member of CentraState Healthcare System’s Board of Trustees since 2022, will focus her time at CentraState to ensure continued leadership stability, officials said.

"Similarly, Stephanie Schwartz, who previously served as president of Atlantic Health Chilton Medical Center, is experiencing a homecoming as she deftly plays double duty,” Ehtisham continued. “Their commitment to a seamless leadership transition that prioritizes patient care and the well-being and engagement of our team members deserves high praise.”
Schneider joined Atlantic Health in 2014 as Chief Nurse and Operations Officer of Chilton Medical Center.
She was named President of the medical center in 2022, and since then, the medical center has garnered numerous clinical care and quality achievements.
Her leadership of nursing teams has been instrumental in many of Chilton Medical Center's achievements and accolades, officials said.
During the height of the pandemic in 2020, she led Chilton Medical Center to achieve Magnet Accreditation Recognition for Nursing Excellence, the third health care organization to achieve this award under her leadership.
Schneider received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing from Hunter College-Bellevue School of Nursing, an MBA from Monmouth University, and a doctorate from Seton Hall University.
She is certified in Advanced Nursing Administration, Quality Healthcare, is a Fellow in the College of Healthcare Executives and is a Johnson and Johnson Executive Wharton Fellow.
She also teaches nursing doctoral and graduate leadership/management students at Seton Hall University.
Stephanie Schwartz was named president of Atlantic Health Overlook Medical Center in 2021, following a successful tenure as president at Chilton Medical Center that saw numerous achievements and enhancements in care.
Schwartz graduated Summa Cum Laude from The University of Maryland. She earned her Master of Science, health services administration degree from George Washington University.
Before coming to Atlantic Health, she served in administrative and leadership roles at Southern Ocean County Hospital in Manahawkin and Community Medical Center in Toms River.
Prior to coming to New Jersey, she also served in leadership roles at hospitals in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
