Today's riddle: What is clean when it is black and dirty when it is white? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. On This Rutgers Farm, the Grass Is Always Greener by Design (newswise.com) — Right in Freehold, Rutgers' Adelphia Farm is quietly shaping the grass beneath everything from World Cup stadiums to local lawns. Honors College students recently toured the 200-plus-acre research site, where scientists breed drought- and shade-tolerant turfgrasses and test new AI-powered imaging tools that could influence how future parks, fields, and backyards look and hold up to climate change.
2. Former Middletown Police Sergeant Sentenced in Case Involving Ghost Guns, Narcotics (TAPinto.net) — A major police corruption and ghost-gun case tied to Monmouth County has ended with a five-year state prison sentence for a former Middletown sergeant, announced from the prosecutor's office in Freehold. Investigators say he helped move illegal firearm parts from a Millstone vape shop and was later found with ghost-gun kits and narcotics, while also misusing law-enforcement databases.
3. Chuck Berry, Sgt. Pepper, Monterey Pop part of Springsteen Center future (northjersey.com) — Freehold gets a nod as fans still visit Bruce Springsteen's childhood homes while a new draw, the Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music at Monmouth University in Long Branch, ramps up events. A Chuck Berry symposium this Saturday, film screenings, talks with E Street insiders, and school-group support are helping turn the Jersey Shore into an even bigger pilgrimage spot for music lovers.
4. Week 5 Dick's House of Sport Football Player of the Week: Alex Staten, Donovan Catholic (shoresportsinsider.com) — A standout Shore Conference football performance just brought some attention back to Freehold, with Donovan Catholic running back Alex Staten earning a $50 gift card from Dick's House of Sport at Freehold Raceway Mall. Staten rushed for a school-record 371 yards plus three touchdowns in a lopsided win over Rumson-Fair Haven, securing Week 5 Player of the Week honors.
