MoleSafe Provides Lifesaving Skin Health Tips in Recognition of Melanoma Monday

Enrolling in an Early Detection Melanoma Screening Program Can Save Your Life

MoleSafe USA, the world’s most advanced melanoma screening program, recognizes Melanoma Monday, May 6, 2013, established by the American Academy of Dermatology to raise awareness of melanoma and other types of skin cancer on the first Monday of May, by encouraging early detection through enrolling in a melanoma screening program and self-exams.

MoleSafe’s comprehensive program incorporates a suite of advanced melanoma detection and diagnosis tools and technology, including total body photography, digital dermoscopy, and digital serial monitoring, to result in earlier detection of melanoma and reduce the unnecessary removal of benign lesions.

The rates of melanoma, the most serious and deadly form of skin cancer, have been rising for the past 30 years, and is projected to take nearly 10,000 lives in 2013, according to the American Cancer Society. The only true cure is prevention through enrolling in an early detection screening program. Prevention is critical, since the five-year survival rates for melanoma is 99 percent when detected and treated early before the melanoma spreads to the lymph nodes, according to the American Cancer Society.

In recognition of Melanoma Monday, MoleSafe encourages patients to enroll in an early detection melanoma screening program, and to perform monthly self-skin exams. Patients are reminded to keep in mind that there are warning signs that indicate there could be a potential problem, including the appearance of a new bump or nodule, color spreading into surrounding skin, redness or swelling beyond the mole, pain, tenderness, itching, and/or bleeding, and encouraged to monitor skin by following the ABCDE rule to determine changes:

“Just as women receive yearly mammograms to detect for breast cancer, early detection melanoma screening programs help to significantly lower your risk of dying from melanoma skin cancer, diagnoses melanoma at its earliest possible stage, and reduce the number of unnecessary biopsies and procedures,” said Richard Bezozo, M.D. President of MoleSafe. “Melanoma Monday is the perfect time to make healthy lifestyle changes and start making educated choices to keep your body’s largest organ in good health.”
