Cancer Support Community Presents Family Ties: Why Your Family History and Genetics Matter Lecture

Family members don’t only share environments and lifestyles, but genes and behaviors as well. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Preventions, these shared traits may influence an individual’s health and their risk of chronic disease. To explore this further, Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus and Cancer Support Community present “Family Ties: Why Your Family History and Genetics Matter” on Wednesday, September 30 at 1 p.m. in Lakewood.

The lecture, presented by Sherry Grumet, MA, MS, LGC, Oncology Genetic Counselor at Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus, will explore characteristics of hereditary cancers and other diseases that can run in the family. It will also further discuss how to collect your family history of cancer and other conditions, as well as the benefits and limitations of genetic testing.
