Comfortable and tranquil weather pattern locks in

A well deserved break to the cool and unsettled weather pattern is on the way for the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas as a more zonal 500 MB pattern starts to take hold over the Eastern United States.  As a result, temperatures will return to more seasonable levels with dry conditions expected through this weekend.

Today on through Sunday, high pressure will generally remain in control with scattered cloud cover.  A few passing disturbances and weak cold fronts to the north of the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan areas will produce an isolated shower or two at any time, however most locations will remain dry with only a few passing clouds.  Winds will be from the west at 5 to 15 mph through the forecast period.  Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the upper 60's to lower 70's for highs.  Temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will range from the upper 40's to lower 50's for lows and upper 60's to lower 70's for highs, mid to upper 60's over Long Island.

Tranquil conditions will remain in place Monday on through Wednesday with scattered cloud cover expected.  A few passing disturbances will keep the threat for an isolated shower in the forecast.  Otherwise, dry conditions are expected for much of the region.  Temperatures through the forecast period will range form the mid to upper 40's for lows and upper 60's to lower 70's, mid to upper 60's along the immediate coast and Long Island for highs.

A stronger cold front will slowly move through the region on Thursday with scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms.  The thunderstorms will be capable of heavy downpours, frequent lightning, small hail, and wind gusts over 40 mph.  Temperatures will range from the lower to mid 50's for lows and lower to mid 70's for highs.
