Driver Dies When Car Hits Tree In Fiery Upper Freehold Crash

A Mercedes Benz was engulfed in flames after it struck a tree in a fatal crash on a local road in Upper Freehold on Wednesday, police say.

UPPER FREEHOLD, NJ — The driver of a Mercedes Benz died after the car apparently left the road, crashed into a tree and became engulfed in flames, state police said.

The accident took place Wednesday morning at approximately 10:41 a.m. on Jonathan Holmes Road in Upper Freehold, according to a statement from Sgt. Lawrence Peele of the Public Information Unit of the State Police.

He said a preliminary investigation indicates that the car traveled off the roadway, struck a tree, and became engulfed in flames.

The driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, the statement said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and police did not release information regarding the identity of the victim.
