Drunk Driver Hit Woman, Kids Outside NJ Preschool, Police Say

The crash occurred on Friday afternoon as the woman and her sons were leaving Bloom Academy in Freehold Township.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A woman and her kids were taken to the hospital on Friday after they were struck by an SUV outside a local preschool, police said.

Around 3 p.m. on Friday, police responded to Bloom Academy at 350 Pond Road for a report of pedestrians struck by a vehicle, Freehold Township Police Captain Joseph Winowski told Patch.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they determined that the driver, identified as Angela Arrigo, 68, of Manalapan, was operating the vehicle while intoxicated, Winowski said.

Arrigo was then charged with driving while intoxicated, assault by auto, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to police.

The pedestrians — identified by News 12 New Jersey as Patrice Pisani and her two sons — were taken to an area hospital for treatment and later released.

According to the report, Pisani's youngest son took the brunt of the crash and is being treated for a leg injury and burns from the undercarriage of the car.

“We are deeply saddened by this incident,” Bloom Academy Owner Jill Howard told News 12. “While we are grateful that the injury was not more severe, we remain committed to the safety and well-being of our students, families, and staff.”
