Freehold Commemorates 10th Anniversary of 9/11
Services planned in the area on Sunday.
Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Among those killed on Sept. 11 were the following Freehold residents: Frederick J. Hoffmann, 53; Michele L. Hoffman, 27; Carmen Milagros Rodriguez, 46; Joseph Sacerdote, 48; Astrid Elizabeth Sohan, 32; Wendy Alice Rosario Wakeford, 40.
Individuals who would like to commemorate the 10th anniversary with friends and neighbors may do so at several ceremonies in the area on Sunday.
- Freehold Township will hold a memorial service at 10 a.m. at the municipality’s 9/11 Memorial, which is located next to Town Hall. Freehold Township firefighters, police officers, emergency service providers, and veteran’s groups have been invited to participate in the ceremony. Anyone may attend the event, which will include a wreath-laying during performances of “Amazing Grace” and “Taps.”
- Freehold Borough will hold a candlelight vigil service from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the municipality’s September 11th Memorial located next to Borough Hall. The event will include a reading of the names of all Monmouth County residents killed during the Sept. 11 attacks. A local choir will perform and a bagpiper will play “Amazing Grace.” All are invited to attend.
- Girl Scout Troop 66, in collaboration with the Freehold Public Library’s Teen Library Committee, will hold a flag retirement ceremony at 7 p.m. The event will take place at the ceremonial fire ring of the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore’s Program Activity Center, 127 Yellowbrook Road in Farmingdale.
