Freehold Nov. 8 Election Guide

Be an informed voter on Tuesday.

Freehold Borough and Freehold Township voters will weigh in on municipal, county and legislative elections during Tuesday’s election. Find your polling location at Vote411.org and read up on the area races below.

Freehold Borough

The mayor’s office, a four-year term, and two, three-year Borough Council seats are up for election this year. Democrat J. Nolan Higgins is running unopposed for mayor. Republicans face Democratic incumbents .

Freehold Township

Two Township Committee seats, each three-year terms, are up for election. Republican incumbents face challenges from Democrats .

Six candidates are seeking election to two, three-year terms on the Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders. Republican incumbent Lillian Burry, Democratic incumbent Amy Mallet, independent candidate Thomas Markowski, Socialist Party candidate Patrick Noble, Republican Gary Rich and Democrat William Shea.

The surrogate’s office is involved with determining the validity of wills and handling matters concerning probate, guardianship, adoptions, and trust fund administration, among other responsibilities. Democrat Michael Stein horn is challenging Republican incumbent Rosemarie Peters for the position.

The newly realigned 11th legislative district includes Freehold Borough and Freehold Township. Republican incumbent Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande face challenges from Democrats Vin Gopal and Kathleen Horgan and independent former Assemblyman Daniel Jacobson.

Democrat Raymong Santiago is challenging Republican incumbent Jennifer Beck in the 11th district state Senate race.

Sports Betting Referendum

A referendum question on the ballot asks New Jersey voters whether or not they want to authorize the legislature to allow wagering on sports events at Atlantic City casinos and on horse racetracks.
