Freehold Township Awarded ‘Healthy Town’ Distinction

FREEHOLD, NJ - The statewide Mayors’ Wellness Campaign of the New Jersey Health Care Quality Institute recently awarded Freehold Township a Healthy Town distinction for its prioritization of healthy lifestyles.

The designation is given to communities whose mayors consider healthy lifestyles a top priority and actively engage all members of their community through inclusive, evidence-based health and wellness programming, policies and a culture of health.

Freehold-based CentraState Healthcare System boasts a collaborative effort with the township to ensure the prioritization of health for all residents. Alongside serving on the Healthy Town committee, CentraState’s collaboration with Freehold Township includes the following initiatives:

• Walk with the Doc: Coordinated with bariatric surgery group Prime Surgicare, Walk with the Doc offers residents the opportunity to engage in physical activity with health professionals.

• Park Rx America: Star and Barry Tobias Health Awareness Center staff members “prescribe” participation in this park program designed to improve health and wellness for the community by promoting outdoor activity.

• Healthy Food Initiatives: CentraState Healthcare System helps to distribute food vouchers, fresh produce and other healthy foods in the community while sharing bilingual cooking videos and recipes.
