Freehold Township Man Struck, Killed On Route 9

A Freehold Township man was struck and killed Friday night on Route 9 in Freehold, according to the Monmouth County prosecutor’s office.

The 19-year-old, who was on foot, was hit by a 2006 Saturn Ion driven by a 51-year-old Jackson woman, said Charles Webster, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.

The accident happened at 9:11 p.m. on the northbound side of Route 9 near the Wendy’s, Webster said, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:23 p.m.

The name of the driver was not released. Webster said no charges or motor vehicle citations have been issued. The investigation is continuing, he said.
