Freehold Woman Forged Checks Worth Nearly $2,000: Police
Alicia A. Ashby tried to flee police when told she was being arrested; a police officer suffered minor injuries subduing her, police said.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ -- A Freehold woman is being held at the Monmouth County jail after she was arrested Friday on charges of theft and resisting arrest in connection with stolen checks that were forged for nearly $2,000, according to a criminal complaint.
Alicia A. Ashby, 27, of Stonehurst Boulevard, Freehold, is charged with theft, forgery and receiving stolen property in the Freehold Township incident, which happened in January, according to the complaint.
Ashby is accused of knowning passing five checks totalling $1,960 from the victim, forging the victim's signature and receiving stolen property in connection with the checks, "which she knew or should have known were stolen from the rightful owner," the complaint signed by Detective William Holohan says.

In addition, Ashby is accused of resisting arrest by shoving Freehold Township Police Officer Daniel Rehberg out of the way after being told she was under arrest and then fleeing. Once she was apprehended, she resisted being handcuffed, the complaint says, and Rehberg suffered minor injuries subduing her, the complaint says.
Ashby is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institute, Freehold Township, in lieu of $70,000 bail, no 10 percent, set by Judge Nicole Sonnenblick, $60,000 on the theft/fraud charges and an additional $10,000 on the resisting charge, the complaint says.
