How You Can Open Your Pool

It may not seem like it yet, but spring is indeed on its way. What does that mean? Summer isn’t too far behind that! It’s never too early to start thinking about opening your pool for the season. It’s important to be prepared. Those backyard barbecues are all within your reach. Central Jersey Pools has a goal of making sure you’re always satisfied. Check out these tips on how to open your pool:

Cover

• Scrape off any and all debris, like leaves and twigs, from the cover, then remove the cover carefully.
• Pump out any standing water from the cover.
• Clean the cover and let it dry thoroughly.
• Fold and store your cover in a dry place.

Water Addition and Equipment Reconnection

• Get the water level of the water up by adding more water.
• Remove freeze plugs and all winter plugs that were installed when you closed the pool.
• Reconnect all equipment, including the pump and filter.
• Clear antifreeze from the drain lines.

Filter

• Clean the filter.
• Start it up to make sure it’s working properly.
• Prime the pump before starting up the motor.
• Release any built-up air.
• Inspect for any cracks or leaks.

Cleaning

• Make sure the water looks clear.
• Use a skimmer to clean out any debris.
• Vacuum out all dirt, algae, bits of debris and sand.

Chemicals

• Let the water settle for between 12 and 24 hours for proper mixture.
• Test the water with strips and kits.
• Put in the correct chemicals in the proper order for best results.
• This is the time to test for pH, calcium hardness, alkalinity and chlorine.

Install all Hardware and Accessories

• Add handrails, stairs and ladders.
• Inspect the diving board for cracks and other signs of damage.
• Clean up the pool tile.
• Scrub the grout with a mixture of baking soda and water, as well as a brush.
• Vacuum again to get all the last traces of dirt out.

Run the Systems

• Let the filter and circulation systems run overnight.
• Add shock to the pool, which will remove any remaining bacteria.
• Add algae control so nothing slimy can coat the liner of your pool or collect on top of the water.
