Humid Conditions Return This Afternoon

Humid conditions will return to the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas by this afternoon as high pressure drifts into the Atlantic and winds from the southwest take over at all levels of the atmosphere.  However, the tropical air mass will not have much staying power as a cold front is quickly going to put an end to any hot and humid conditions.

Today, will shift off the coast leading to scattered cloud cover and an isolated shower or thunderstorm in the afternoon.  Winds will be from the southwest at 5 to 15 mph.  Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper 80's for highs with increasing humidity.

Tomorrow, a strong cold front will approach the Philadelphia and New York City metropolitan areas with increasing clouds through the day.  Widespread showers and thunderstorms will develop in the afternoon and evening.  The strongest thunderstorms will be capable of wind gusts over 60 mph, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy downpours.  Localized flash flooding and wind damage will be a threat from these thunderstorms tomorrow evening.  Winds will be from the southwest at 10 to 20 mph.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 70s.  High temperatures will range from the upper 80s to lower 90s.

On Thursday, the cold front will slowly sick south of the northern Mid Atlantic with showers lingering in the morning followed by clearing skies in the afternoon and evening.  Winds will veer to the north and northwest at 10 to 20 mph.  Temperatures will range from the upper 60s to lower 70s for lows and upper 70s to lower 80s for highs.

High pressure will be in control Friday on through Sunday with clear skies to scattered cloud cover.  An area of low pressure will approach on Monday with scattered showers expected.  Low temperatures will range from the lower to mid 60s.  High temperatures will range from the lower to mid 80s.
