Monmouth County School District Gets $100K Grant For Health Science Programs

The grant will help provide nursing and allied health students with hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment and technology.

MONMOUTH COUNTY, NJ — The Monmouth County Vocational School District (MCVSD) has received a $100,000 grant that will help provide nursing and allied health students with hands-on experience and industry-standard equipment and technology.

The grant, which is from the NJ Health Foundation EJI Excellence in Medicine Fund, will benefit students in MCVSD’s Academy of Allied Health & Science high school and the Health Occupations & Nursing shared-time program based in Tinton Falls, MCVSD Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction Thomas Evancho, Ed.D. said.

“This award provides meaningful support for advancing our health science programs across the district,” Evancho said. “It allows us to strengthen clinical simulation at our Tinton Falls location and expand innovative instruction in anatomy and physiology, as well as biomedical research, at AAHS.”

“Together, these improvements will help ensure students on both campuses are prepared with the skills and experiences needed for success in today’s evolving healthcare landscape,” he continued.

At the Academy of Allied Health & Science, the grant funding will be used to expand instructional resources in the school’s biology, anatomy and physiology, and clinical skills lab spaces, district officials said.

Investments include the purchase of Anatomage tablets to support immersive anatomy and physiology instruction, along with DNA amplification and analysis tools, molecular biology equipment, and precision lab instrumentation to strengthen hands-on learning in biomedical and health science contexts.

For the Tinton Falls Campus, the grant will fund the expansion of the program’s hospital-style simulation environments by purchasing advanced nursing and pediatric patient simulators, patient monitoring equipment, hospital beds and exam tables, and venipuncture, injection and wound-care training systems.

This will allow students to practice skills and clinical decision-making in safe, high-fidelity simulated settings, Evancho said.

“Health care is a high-growth sector in New Jersey and nationally,” Evancho said. “This grant will enhance student readiness for college, certification programs and health care careers. It also further solidifies the district as a leader in secondary-level health science education.”
