The Noontime Optimist Club of Freehold will present Mike McGrath, host of Public Radio's "You Bet Your Garden," at a May 21 benefit event.

The Noontime Optimist Club of Freehold will present Mike McGrath, host of the nationally syndicated Public Radio show “You Bet Your Garden,” on Saturday, May 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Fernbrook Farms’ education center in Chesterfield, N.J.
The event—held to benefit the non-profit organization in its 28th year of service to children across New Jersey through its support of Camp Quality New Jersey and other youth oriented organizations—will feature organic gardening tips, light ‘farm to table’ refreshments and a meet & greet with McGrath. Fernbrook Farms is located at 142 Bordentown-Georgetown Rd., three miles east of Bordentown.
“You Bet Your Garden” features organic gardening advice including tips on fending off garden and household pests without the use of toxic chemicals, caring for lawns and landscapes and growing in tough conditions like extreme heat, unending rain and poor soil. In addition to hosting “You Bet Your Garden, McGrath is also the Garden Editor for WTOP News Radio in Washington, D.C.; a post he has held for more than a decade. He has served as columnist and Contributing Editor for Greenprints magazine since 1997, and was the garden expert for the Saturday edition of The Today Show on NBC, appearing monthly from 1993 through 1997.
