Woman Killed, Husband Critically Hurt In Rt 9 Freehold Twp. Crash
The crash that shut down Route 9 on Wednesday remains under investigation, the Monmouth County prosecutor's office said.

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Lakewood woman was killed and her husband was critically injured during a multi-vehicle crash on Route 9 at Craig Road on Wednesday afternoon, the Monmouth County prosecutor's office said Thursday.
Patricia Limone, 76, and her husband, James Limone, 78, also of Lakewood, suffered extensive injuries in the crash that happened just before 1 p.m., Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said.
Patricia Limone was taken to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold Township, where she was pronounced dead at 2:09 p.m. James Limone was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he is currently in critical condition, Gramiccioni's office said.

The crash was reported at 12:57 p.m. on Wednesday.
Derrick T. Gyengo, 33, of Laurence Harbor, was driving a 2009 Honda Accord north on Route 9 when his car and a 2013 Lexus driven by John Scranton Jr., 59, of Howell, collided at the Craig Road intersection. Scranton was making a left turn from East Freehold Road onto Route 9 south.

After the crash, Gyengo’s Honda kept going north and collided with the 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Patricia Limone. She was headed west through the intersection on East Freehold Road to Craig Road.
Gyengo, Scranton, and a male passenger in Scranton's car were not injured, authorities said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Freehold Township Police Department and the Monmouth County Serious Crash Analysis Response Team (SCART).
Freehold Township Police Officer Kevin Cherney of the department's traffic unit was the first responding officer. Manalapan police, Freehold First Aid, East Freehold Fire Department, Manalapan First Aid, and MONOC Paramedics assisted at the scene.
