18 Units Displaced After Galloway Apartment Fire: Police

The early morning blaze displaced families and one police officer was hospitalized for smoke inhalation, Galloway police said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — An early morning apartment fire displaced 18 units and hospitalized a police officer, Galloway police said.

Shortly after 5 a.m. on Oct. 29, police responded to Apache Court for a structure fire and found "a fully engulfed building containing dozens of apartments," police said.

As all surrounding fire departments responded, police went floor-to-floor to safely evacuate all of the apartment's occupants, police said.

"Once several fire departments arrived on scene, they were able to gain control of the large fire and extinguish it," police said.

Numerous victims were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, police said, and a Galloway police officer was taken to AtlantiCare Mainland Division to be treated for smoke inhalation as well.

A total of 18 units were displaced, and the Galloway Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross were contacted to assist those residents.

As of Saturday, police were still checking debris to make sure all residents got out safety, police said. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Police thanked all of the responding Fire Companies, Galloway Twp. EMS, Galloway Twp. Emergency Management and the Red Cross, for their assistance during this incident.
