18-Year-Old Atlantic County Woman Dies From Coronavirus

Atlantic County announced nine new coronavirus deaths. All of the patients had preexisting conditions that put them at higher risk.

ATLANTIC COUNTY, NJ — Atlantic County announced nine new coronavirus deaths Tuesday, including an 18-year-old Mullica Township woman. The other eight people to die from the virus were elderly residents of longterm-care facilities, according to officials.

All eight had preexisting conditions that put them at higher risk, according to the County. No further information about the preexisting conditions was immediately available.

Seven of the elderly residents were from Absecon — two 80-year-old women, two 80-year-old men, an 80-year-old woman, and 88-year-old man and a 90-year-old woman. The other resident was a 77-year-old man from Linwood.

County officials also reported 34 new coronavirus cases Tuesday — 10 in Atlantic City, eight in Galloway, five in Egg Harbor Township and three in Northfield. Hamilton Township, Hammonton and Ventnor each had two new cases while Pleasantville and Somers Point each had one.

Atlantic County has reported 1,546 total coronavirus cases, 351 people cleared as recovered and 86 deaths.

Atlantic County will continue its drive-thru testing from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday behind the Hamilton Mall in Mays Landing. Testing is available for symptomatic county residents with a doctor's prescription, proof of residency and an appointment confirmation. Visit www.aclink.org to make an appointment.

The State has reported 29 coronavirus deaths of people ages 18-29. Officials have tallied 9,310 coronavirus deaths in New Jersey.

Coronavirus cases among young people has become a more prevalent issue recently in New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy announced Friday that a 4-year-old child died — New Jersey's first reported coronavirus-linked death of a child.

Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said the 4-year-old child had a "significant" underlying condition, but it was not Kawasaki disease. At least 13 New Jersey children were recently hospitalized with "pediatric multi-system inflammatory syndrome" resembling the illness, which is potentially linked to COVID-19.
