2006 Atlantic City Killings Remain Under Investigation: Prosecutor

MAYS LANDING, NJ — Accused Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann is not linked to the 2006 Atlantic City sex worker homicides, officials said. But the latter remains under investigation.

In a statement released Tuesday, Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds confirmed that there "there does not seem to be" any connection between the two cases, where sex workers were killed, some being strangled to death.

The conclusion came after ACPO and Suffolk County detectives met up to compare timelines, methodologies and more, Reynolds said.

But the investigation into the deaths remains open, Reynolds said.

"Authorities will continue to follow all leads until the perpetrator of those crimes is brought to justice," Reynolds said.

In 2006, the bodies of four sex workers were discovered in a drainage ditch behind a motel on Black Horse Pike in Egg Harbor Township.

The women had been strangled to death, giving the unknown killer the nickname "the Eastbound Strangler."

Though the case is still open and active, Reynolds said that there will be no further comment on it.

"Given the open nature of the investigation, there will be no further comment on this case in order to minimize the possibility of controlled information getting out into the public that could ultimately jeopardize the investigation," he said.
