Absegami Boys' Basketball Team Sweeps Bracket at Boardwalk Classic

The Braves rallied to win the final game.

The boys' basketball season is just four games old, but Absegami High School has already shown the ability to play from behind.

The Braves' comeback fell short against Atlantic City in the second game of the season, but that wasn't the case as Absegami (3-1) won the George Betz Memorial Bracket Championship at the Boardwalk Classic in Wildwood on Tuesday, Dec. 27.

The Braves found themselves down eight points entering the fourth quarter, but rallied to beat Montgomery Blair (Md.), 58-57.

Absegami's Lamar Monroe continued to light up the scoreboard with a game-high 19 points in the win.

Richie Sandoval scored 15 points, including six from beyond the arc, and Jaleel Christmon added 14 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Montgomery Blair jumped out to a 17-8 lead after the first quarter and enjoyed an eight-point advantage at halftime and after the third quarter.

The Maryland squad was led by Theo Remy, who scored 15 points.

Absegami turned on the defense in the second half, as Montgomery Blair shot just 36-percent from the floor.

Absegami made it to the bracket finals by beating Visions Academy, 64-31, on Monday, Dec. 26.

Darryl Loveland led all scorers with 16 points in that game. He also grabbed nine rebounds.

Lamar Monroe, who is averaging 23 points a game this year, chipped in with 14 points. Richie Sandoval dished out seven assists.

Absegami was in control from the start outscoring Visions, 33-13, in the first half.

The Braves have a week off until they take on rival Holy Spirit on Jan. 4.
