Absegami Football Team's Schedule Affords No Time to Look Back

The Braves must put last week's loss behind them as 2-0 Atlantic City comes to visit this week.

The beauty of early season football schedule is that there’s no time to look back.

The Braves face their third straight opponent coming off a 2010 playoff appearance, as Atlantic City visits Galloway Township for a 7 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Sept. 23.

The fact that last week means very little since the Braves started preparing for the Vikings.

There is too much at stake.

Atlantic City (2-0), which is coming off a , and Absegami (1-1) both have aspirations of making the Group IV South playoffs this year, and this game can go a long way when power points are totaled up in November.

“There are a lot of power points at stake,” Absegami coach Dennis Scuderi Jr. said. “It would be 16 points right off the bat and I’m sure they will add wins throughout the season for more points. It’s critical. It will give either team a leg up (in the playoff race).”

That is why that the Braves are putting last week’s loss to the Spartans behind them.

“I’ve been saying all along win or lose, that every week we are focusing on that one week,” Scuderi Jr. said. “We are taking it one week at a time and looking at that one game as a season unto itself. Hopefully win or lose we won’t treat any game differently.”

Atlantic City is 2-0, playing solid defense, and making big plays on offense. Against Ocean City, Atlantic City had just one first half first down, but still led at the half, 13-6, thanks to a kickoff return for a touchdown, and a long pass play.

The Vikings feature the speed and quickness of wide receivers Radi Tolbert and Ismail Naji, and powerful running back Domaneek Hurd.

Sophomore quarterback Robert Tolbert had some success through the air against the Red Raiders.

On defense, the Vikings were more susceptible against the pass than the run against the Red Raiders, but they haven’t faced a running attack as successful as the Braves’ yet this season.

“They are a very good football team and well coached with a system in place on both sides of the ball,” Scuderi Jr. said. “They have very good skill athletes who make plays. They are a very good football team.”
