Absegami Girls' Swim Team's Presence Not as Strong as Others at Hackney Meet

The girls’ swim team did not fare as well as Atlantic City, Mainland Regional or Vineland—all of which placed six or more times in the top three spots—in its recent meet.

However, the Galloway Township-based high school did make waves in two of the heats during Saturday's Hackney's Girls’ Swimming Invitational.

Freshman Emily Barnard placed first in the 200 meter freestyle, finishing in two minutes, 14 seconds and 53 milliseconds. She finished 30 milliseconds before Dominique Voso, an Atlantic City junior, who came in 2:16.23. Hammonton freshman Charmaine Chew finished third with a final time of 2:18.14

The only other event in which Absegami’s presence was felt was the 400 meter freestyle. Barnard placed second behind Voso by less than eight seconds. Voso finished in 4:42.94 compared to Barnard's 4:50.38. Vineland's Rachel Smith came in third with a final time of 5:04.79. All three times beat the past state qualifying time of 5:20.35 for yards swam.
