Absegami High School Foootball Team Has the Night Off

The Braves are in the midst of bye week. They take on Millville next week

The Absegami High School football team gets the night off.

However, not all of the Braves will get away from football completely.

Absegami's next game is at 7 p.m. on the road against Millville next Friday, Oct. 14.

Braves' running back Tyler Bing said he will check out the Thunderbolts if he can. Millville (3-0) is at Ocean City (1-3) tonight. The Braves' coaching staff will probably also make the trip.

"If I can I will try to catch Millville at Ocean City," Bing said. "I will try to scout their defense out."

That defense is tough, allowing just eight points a game. However, the Thunderbolts have yet to be tested against a team like the Braves (2-2).

If the Braves play like they did against Vineland on Sept. 30, many teams might struggle to slow them down.

Absegami scored more than 40 points in the first half, and got some of its swagger back after dropping back-to-back games.

"This was huge," Absegami coach Dennis Scuderi Jr. said following the Vineland game. "They have two wins and a lot of power points. For us we needed some confidence and we needed to come out here and play one of our best games. If we do that week in and week out we should be good."

The Braves hope the bye week won't slow down their momentum, but knowing that they play a team like the Thunderbolts, they expect to be ready.

"We worked hard this week in practice," Bing said.

Millville also boasts a high-powered offense, averaging 37 points a game heading into tonight’s contest. They have plenty of speed, like Atlantic City, which gave the Braves trouble three weeks ago.

Shaq Lee is among the best quarterbacks in the league, and Alquann Jones is among the league leaders in yards and touchdowns. Jones has more than 500 yards and scored five times in three games. Lee has three touchdown passes, but is also equally dangerous with his ability to run.
