Absegami Student Receives National Honor For Academic Achievement

Falon Irwin is going to be a senior at this fall. Her favorite academic subjects are math and science, specifically biology, and she has known she wants to be a medical doctor since middle school.

"I made this decision in seventh or eighth grade that I wanted to be a doctor," she said. "I got a shoulder surgery and got to see the video of him working inside my shoulder. I think that might have been a big part of it."

Since realizing her goals, Falon has worked hard throughout her first three years at Absegami and, because of her efforts, was recently recognized by The National Society of High School Scholars for "superior academic achievement."

"On behalf of NSHSS, I am honored to recognize the hard work, sacrifice, and commitment that Falon has demonstrated to achieve this level of academic excellence," said Claes Nobel, NSHSS founder and a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.

"Falon is now a member of a unique community of scholars—a community that represents our very best hope for the future."

Irwin said she is driven to succeed academically as a seventeen-year-old high school student because she knows that what she does now affects her future.

"I know that whatever you do follows you in life, so if I work really hard right now, I should be able to get into a good college and get a good job," she said. "I'm just looking for it to pay off in th end."

As a member of the NSHSS, Falon will be given scholarship opportunities, will be eligible to compete in academic competitions, can attend free events and will have access to member-only resources, publications and online forums.

There are 530,000 members of the society in more than 160 countries.
