EGG HARBOR TWP., NJ — A Mays Landing man was rescued after being trapped under asphalt in a bin for about two and a half hours Tuesday, Egg Harbor Township police said.
It was about 6 a.m. Tuesday when police received a call about a man trapped inside of a recycled asphalt bin at AE Stone (1435 Doughty Road), according to a news release.
Cameron Briggs, 26, was inside of the bin when he fell backwards, police said.
The asphalt partially collapsed, landing on top of his lower extremities, police said.
Briggs was trapped in a seated position with asphalt just over his waist and his legs straight out.
Workers attempted to free Briggs for about 20 minutes before calling authorities for emergency assistance, police said.
Briggs was conscious and alert, but unable to move due to the weight of the asphalt. He also remained at risk of the remaining several tons of asphalt collapsing on him, police said.
He was rescued after about two and a half hours and taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and further evaluation, police said.
