Assumption School Gets Re-Accreditation

School earns re-accreditation through intense program.

The Assumption Regional Catholic School has earned re-accreditation through the Commission on Elementary Schools, the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA-CESS) announced on Tuesday.

Saint Vincent dePaul Regional School in Mays Landing was also accredited.

Assumption Regional has been accredited since 2001, and earned re-accreditation recently by completing an intense evaluation process, which concluded with a multi-day visit by a volunteer group of regional educators appointed by the MSA-CESS.

The accreditation is recognized worldwide as an indication of educational quality.

A year-long self study is included in the accreditation process, prior to the visit by the representatives.

“Accreditation helps a school and its community to understand how it is doing, but more importantly, learn what it needs to do to improve—a key element missing from most other school assessments,” MSA-CESS President Henry G. Cram said.

The group interviewed teachers, students, parents and administrators, in addition to representatives of the governing bodies.

They also toured the classrooms and studied plans for school improvements. The school's operation and student performance was also observed in the classroom.

“MSA’s accreditation process goes beyond simply test scores to measure a school’s overall effectiveness,” Cram said. “Members must take responsibility for their students’ performance, be committed to public accountability and dedicated to continuous improvement.”

More than 3,600 schools are accredited by the MSA in the mid-Atlantic region, as well as over 80 countries worldwide.
