Body Found 35 Years Ago, Atlantic Co. Seeks Help Identifying
The unidentified woman, whose remains were found in 1988, is believed to be the child of Atlantic County's James "Crab Daddy" Whiting, Jr.

MAYS LANDING, NJ β The remains of a woman were discovered in Mullica Township 35 years ago. Now, authorities believe they know who the woman's father was, and are seeking the public's help in identifying her.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office announced in a news release that they were seeking friends and relatives of James βCrab Daddyβ Whiting, Jr., who was born in 1916 and died in 2011.
Whiting, who worked and lived in the Atlantic City/Pleasantville areas, is the biological father of the woman, according to investigators. Her body was found in a swamp during July of 1988 and the Prosecutor's Office and FBI have been working to identify her. They believe she was a homicide victim.

Authorities believe that she was a black woman estimated to have been born between 1953 and 1963. She was likely about 5'2" and gave birth at least once in her lifetime, authorities said.
While her body was found in July, she is estimated to have died in Jan. 1988, according to state police.

Anyone who can help identify who Whiting may have had a child with consistent with this time frame, or who can identify the woman, is urged to contact the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office or FBI.
