Budget Process Beginning for Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District

State aid figures come out in February.

The Greater Egg Harbor Regional Board of Education was told at its meeting Monday night, Sept. 24 at Absegami High School that the budget process has begun.

However, it will be several months before the board is in a position to approve that budget.

In his bi-monthly report, School District Business Administrator Charles Muller explained  that administration is in the early stages of formulating the 2013-14 budget. There are no figures yet, and there won't be any until the district receives state aid figures.  Those figures become available in late February.

It will be the second year the Board of Education will be able to approve a budget without sending it before the voters, following a ruling last year that allowed the board to move school elections to November and approve the budget without voter approval as long as it stays below the 2 percent cap. Board member Lois Garrison is running for re-election unopposed in November.

By the end of March, the budget will be before the board for its approval to be sent to the county for certification.
