Cops Find Man Who Put Gun In 1st-Grader's Backpack: Officials

GALLOWAY, NJ — A man who police said put a loaded gun in a first-grader's backpack has been found, according to authorities. Officials arrested Lamar Keith Williamson at about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The student unknowingly brought a Taurus 9mm handgun in his backpack to the Atlantic Community Charter School June 6, Galloway police announced. Investigation revealed Williamson — a relative staying at the child's home — placed it in the backpack, authorities said.

The child discovered it at about 3:05 p.m. June 6 and instantly made school staff aware, according to officials. School administration immediately notified Galloway police. Officials also contacted the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency.
