Donald Trump May Attempt to Save Taj Mahal and Trump Plaza

The casino mogul may return to save the financially troubled casinos, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

Casino mogul Donald Trump may be returning to Atlantic City to save two financially troubled casinos that bear his name, The Press of Atlantic City reports.

He said he is considering efforts to save Trump Plaza, which closed on Tuesday, and Trump Taj Mahal, which filed a WARN notice with the state last week, according to the report.

In August, Trump filed a lawsuit against Trump Entertainment Resorts to get his name off the two casinos.

Trump Entertainment Resorts is not owned by Donald Trump, but he still has a 10 percent stake, which is why it is permitted to use his name.

On Tuesday, Trump announced via Twitter, “I left Atlantic City years ago, good timing. Now I may buy back in, at much lower cost, to save Plaza & Taj. They were run badly by funds!”

Trump first opened Trump Plaza in 1984, followed by Trump Marina in 1981 and the Taj Mahal in 1991, according to the Associated Press.

The casinos then fell into bankruptcy, and he lost majority control in 2004. He gave up his chairmanship in 2009, according ton the report.
