Driver Charged In Fatal South Jersey Crash: Prosecutor

Stephen Sirch was speeding in the Atlantic County crash that killed Karina E. Castillo of Camden County, officials said.

HAMILTON TWP., NJ — A Voorhees man has been charged with vehicular homicide in connection with a crash that killed a Clementon woman earlier this month, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office said.

Stephen Sirch, 30, was speeding at the time of the crash on April 3, officials said. The crash killed Karina E. Castillo, 29, officials said.

A 2014 Chevrolet Equinox collided with Castillo's 2011 Honda Civic as both vehicles traveled west on Black Horse Pike, just west of High Bank Road, Patch previously reported. After the contact, Castillo's vehicle crossed over the center painted median into the eastbound lanes, where an oncoming 2015 Ford Fusion struck her vehicle, according to law enforcement. Castillo was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Additionally, four adults and one child were injured, Patch previously reported.

Sirch was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide on April 22 and lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility pending a detention hearing, officials said.

The fatal crash investigation was a cooperative effort by the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office Crash Investigations Unit and the Hamilton Township Police Department.
