Egg Harbor City Man Left 19 Pets In Bad Conditions: Police
Sixteen dogs and three cats were seized before a man was charged with animal cruelty, police said.
EGG HARBOR CITY, NJ — Authorities seized 16 dogs and three cats Wednesday morning from an Egg Harbor City home, police said. Daniel L. Phillips, 69, was charged with 19 counts of animal cruelty for leaving them in inhuman conditions, according to Egg Harbor City police.
New Jersey's statute for inflicting cruelty by leaving an animal in inhumane conditions includes inadequate ventilation; poor exposure to natural or artificial light according to a regular day and night cycle; insufficient space to turn, sit or lay; and failure to minimize exposure to waste.
Phillips also received municipal ordinance charges for failure to register animals, as well as pen- and enclosure-size violations, police said. Egg Harbor City Humane Law Enforcement Officer conducted a seven-week investigation before the seizure.
