AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center to host Current Tides and Future Waves in Nursing Practice
AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center will host Current Tides and Future Waves in Nursing Practice, a nursing education conference, Monday, June 4 from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. p.m. at One Atlantic, The Pier Shops at Caesars, on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.
The conference will be of particular interest to registered nurses and advanced practice nurses but is open to all healthcare providers and students.

Vicki D. Lachman, PhD, MBE, APRN, FAAN, clinical professor, Drexel University College of Nursing and Health Professions, Philadelphia, PA., will deliver the keynote address, “Ethical Challenges in the Era of Health Care Reform.”

Lachman’s primary appointment is in the master’s graduate nursing program at Drexel, where she teaches ethics and also is the track director for the Innovation and Intra/Entrepreneurship Advanced Practice Nursing program. She has authored more than 100 publications on variety of ethical and leadership topics, including Applied Ethics in Nursing. Her third book, Ethical Challenges in Healthcare: Developing Your Moral Compass, was released in 2009. She earned a doctoral degree in education from Temple University, a master’s degrees in psychiatric nursing and bioethics from the University of Pennsylvania. Lachman serves on the American Nurses Association Center for Ethics and Human Rights Advisory Board and writes the quarterly “Ethics, Policy and Law” column in the MedSurg Nursing Journal. In 2011, Lachman was inducted as a fellow into the American Academy of Nursing.
Additional speakers and topics will include:
Howard Axelrod, MD, chairman, Department of Surgery, ARMC and cardiothoracic surgeon, the Heart Institute at ARMC, Mainland Campus, will discuss “Advances in Cardiac Surgery.” Matthew Corcoran, MD, endocrinologist, Joslin Diabetes Center Affiliate at AtlantiCare, will detail “Advances in diabetes therapeutics and technology.” Brenda L. Douglass, DNP, APN, RN, CTTS, advanced practice nurse, AtlantiCare Physician Group, Center for Specialty Care, will cover treatment of tobacco dependence in her presentation, “Seeing Through The Cloud of Smoke: Treating Tobacco Dependence.” Joseph Reilly, PharmD, clinical pharmacist, ARMC, will discuss management of resistant infections in his presentation, “Super Bugs: Managing Resistant Infections With Antimicrobial Therapy.”
