Dr. Paul Bartrop to Present AnnualIda E. King Memorial Lecture

The event, presented by Stockton’s Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center, features Australian Holocaust scholar Dr. Paul Bartrop, the Ida E. King Distinguished Visiting Professor of Holocaust Studies.

Dr. Bartrop’s talk is entitled “The Kristallnacht as Seen From Australia, 1938.”  For New Jersey educators attending the talk, two professional development hours (PDH) are available.

Kristallnacht or “The Night of the Broken Glass” took place November 9 and 10, 1938, during which 1,408 synagogues and other places of worship were destroyed throughout Germany and Austria. In addition to the destruction, 30,000 Jews were arrested. Elie Wiesel, Holocaust survivor and Pulitzer winner, characterized Kristallnacht as “…the end of the beginning and the beginning of the end.”  Dr. Bartrop will examine the events of Kristallnacht from the perspective of his native Australia.
