Exhibit Depicting Child Holocaust Victims On Display In Atlantic County
A documentary about the art will be screened on Oct. 26.

MARGATE, NJ — “Drawing against Oblivion,” a free exhibit of charcoal portraits depicting child victims of the Holocaust by Austrian artist Manfred Bockelmann, will be will be on display from Oct. 19-Nov. 6 at the Milton and Betty Katz Jewish Community Center, 501 North Jerome Avenue in Margate.
Some of the large-scale drawings depict siblings of local Holocaust survivors. Bockelmann used photographs of the victims to create the portraits. The exhibit may be viewed during the JCC hours of operation: Monday-Thursday from 5:30 a.m.-10 p.m., Friday from 5:30 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m.-5p.m. Docent guided tours are available for school groups and organizations.
The award-winning documentary, “Drawing against Oblivion,” a film about Bockelmann and his art project, will be shown at 7 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the JCC. The film will be followed by a discussion with the artist and Marion Hussong, professor of Literature at Stockton University. The event is free and open to the public on a first-come first-served basis.

The exhibit and screening are sponsored by the Sara and Sam Schoffer Holocaust Resource Center at Stockton University and the Milton and Betty Katz Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Margate.
