Five Things You Need To Know About Tuesday's Council Meeting
Some happenings from the council meeting on May 22.

1. Township Manager Arch Liston will serve as the Acting Deputy Clerk while Township Clerk Thalia C. Kay is on vacation from May 31-June 8, per a resolution passed Tuesday night. This will encompass New Jersey’s primary date of June 5, although there are no municipal elections in Galloway this year and the school board elections are now being handled through the Atlantic County Clerk’s Office.
According to Liston, he previously served as Deputy Clerk in Mount Holly around 2001. He will receive no additional compensation for filling this role.
The need arises after Carol Hackney resigned as Deputy Clerk on March 20. The position has yet to be filled. Hackney remains an employee of the township as the Registrar of Vital Statistics.

2. After a few more delays, the Galloway Senior Center is set to open the first week of June, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony tentatively set for Saturday morning, June 9 at 10 a.m.
“I’m excited,” Mayor Don Purdy said. “The seniors in this town pay a lot of money, and they deserve to have a place where they can congregate and be able to do things with other seniors. It’s beautiful inside.”

3. Galloway Township’s Memorial Day celebration takes place Monday morning, May 28 at the Germania Cemetery on Vienna Avenue and Moss Mill Road.
4. Council approved a resolution authorizing the endorsement of a grant agreement between New Jersey Emergency Management for drainage improvements to Pomona Pond drainage basin.
5. Resolutions passed on Tuesday night included the reimbursement of 2011 total payout of 19 condominium associations in the township in accordance with the condominium service laws, and to authorize the township to reimburse the Condominium Act to Woods at Great Creek in the amount of $3,552.63.
