Five Things You Need To Know About Tuesday's Council Meeting
A committee was formed to find a new solicitor and a new zoning board member was unanimously approved.

1. Galloway Solicitor Michael Blee has been approved for his position on the State by the Senate Judiciary Committee and his name was released to the full Senate. He is no longer the Solicitor for Galloway Township, and on Tuesday night, his position was occupied by Galloway Tax Appeals Attorney Tom Smith, who filled in at the last minute. At the meeting, a committee was appointed to select a new solicitor. That committee is made up of Mayor Don Purdy, Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola and Councilman Brian Tyrrell.
2. Tuesday night’s meeting was the first without Dennis Kleiner on Galloway Council, as Kleiner officially resigned earlier in the week because he was moving to a neighboring town. The Atlantic County Republican Committee now has 10 days from the time of to submit three names to the Galloway Township Council for approval. If Council cannot pick from those three names, the Committee will appoint someone to take Kleiner’s spot. There will be a special election this November to determine who will hold that seat until it expires in 2013.
3. Galloway Township has a distribution liquor license that Mayor Don Purdy suggested selling as a revenue source for the community. The license allows prospective business owners to purchase an empty lot and a liquor license at the same time, rather than purchasing the lot and then taking an extra step to purchase the license. According to Purdy, the Township has been in possession of the license for the last three or four years. He said it’s been a year and a half since the last inquiry about the license.

“It could go next door to an existing site,” Purdy said. “I don’t think we should sit on something that could bring in revenue and be another ratable.”
4. Chris Coleman was unanimously appointed to fill a vacancy that came up on Zoning Board when a current member resigned because they were moving out of the township.
