Five Things You Need to Know About Wednesday's Council Meeting
Concerns were raised about polling locations.

1. Councilman Tom Bassford raised concerns about the ability of the Sixth Avenue fire house to handle voting in next year's presidential election. "The Sixth Avenue fire house was very busy," he said. "(Next year) there's going to be mass confusion and it won't be fair to the voters." Deputy Mayor Tony Coppola said he had heard multiple concerns from voters about the polling location this year. Voting Districts 3 and 6 both voted at that location. The location registered 1,010 voters throughout the course of the day. It was one of four locations that had two districts report to it for this year's election. The Stockton Campus Ministry had 431 people between Districts 7 and 16; Assumption Regional Catholic School saw 626 voters between Districts 10 and 14; and the Roland Rogers School saw 747 voters between Districts 11 and 17. The other districts broke down as follows: District 1, Oceanville Fire Company: 480 District 2, Germania Volunteer Fire Company: 569 District 4, South Egg Harbor Volunteer Fire Company: 368 District 5, Pomona Volunteer Fire Company: 355 District 8, Smithville Community Center: 519 District 9, Smithville Elementary School: 515 District 12, Seashore Gardens Living Center: 316 District 13, The Woods at Blue Heron Pines: 298 District 15, Bayview Volunteer Fire Company: 429 2. The council amended a resolution to appoint Marilyn Dolcy to the Board of Assessment. She replaces former Chief Financial Officer Jill Gougher, and joins Township Manager Steve Bonanni and Councilwoman Whitney Ullman as commissioners on the board. 3. The council passed a resolution authorizing the appropriation transfer of $14,000 to cover the cost of the Township Clerk salaries due to excess personnel needs in 2011. The $14,000 covers the time Karen Bacon served as clerk during the time between July 18, when the former clerk resigned and Oct. 3, when her time as clerk expired. 4. The council passed a resolution awarding the first option to QC Laboratory Inc. for state-mandated well-testing at two landfills in an amount not to exceed $13,000. The price of the testing did not go up, according to Bonanni, and this is the first of two options the township can exercise on this contract. 5. The township will hold its Veterans Day ceremony in the municipal complex on Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m.
